The Scottish Highland is coming to the Spokane area this August with the Spokane Scottish Highland Games, an event centered around celebrating Scottish heritage that will feature fun for the whole family.
With a focus on activities for all ages, the Spokane Scottish Highland Games will feature a number of Scottish-themed events, games, merchants and more.
Scottish traditions include bagpipe bands, highland dancing and athletic competitions, such as a tug-o-war.
Visitors can also enjoy Scottish and Celtic music and merchants, take Gaelic lessons, and see everything from highland cattle to classic British cars.
Children, especially, can participate in face painting, compete in the Knobby Knees and Stout Calves contests, and watch reenactments of historical events. Because kids can spend seven and a half hours or more per day in front of a TV or computer screen, this fun summer event can get children and their families out of the house — and learning, too.
The event will take place at the Spokane County Fair and Expo at 404 N. Havana St. on Aug. 1, 2015 between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and youth, $5 for children, and free for kids under five. This year, parking is also free.
